ExchangeDefender offers two different software packages to help users interact with the web service in the environment they spend most of their time in.
Note: Review the contents of the download package. It includes brandable documentation, branding instructions, software customization documentation and XML files.
Is installation of ExchangeDefender Client Software required?
No. Installation of Client Software is not required for ExchangeDefender to effectively protect your mailbox.
We designed ExchangeDefender Client Software for Outlook 2007 and Desktop to give our users more options to manage ExchangeDefender in the environment in which they spend most of their time. Some users spend all day in Outlook 2007, so navigating to a web page to change settings may not be optimal. Some users receive important email from random sources that must be acted upon quickly, so we designed Desktop Agent which displays SPAM quarantine statistics every hour. Both are available for your convenience.
Which one should I download and use?
You can download and use both ExchangeDefender Outlook 2007 and Desktop agents. While some functionality is available in both packages, each is designed for a specific purpose.
ExchangeDefender Outlook 2007 agent is designed for users that need to review their quarantines and report SPAM directly from Outlook 2007. ExchangeDefender Desktop agent is designed for users that don't have Outlook 2007 or need hourly SPAM alerts.
Using both agents at the same time will not cause problems.
How are the two agents different?
ExchangeDefender Outlook 2007 agent allows you to submit SPAM for further review so that it does not slip through ExchangeDefender again. It also allows you to submit SMTP headers directly to the ExchangeDefender support teams that can review messages for any problems and support issues.
ExchangeDefender Desktop agent provides hourly popups in the notification area so you can see if there is new SPAM waiting for your review since the last time you looked at it. Desktop agent also provides a hotlink to the ExchangeDefender LiveArchive.
Both agents provide configuration management, whitelist/trusted sender management, SPAM quarantine management and SPAM statistics.
Will the ExchangeDefender Outlook 2007 agent work in Outlook 2003?
Unfortunately, no. ExchangeDefender Outlook 2007 agent requires Outlook 2007, and it will not work with Outlook 2003. Microsoft has changed the development model between Outlook 2003 (.NET) and Outlook 2007 (Visual Studio Tools for Office / VSTO), and the software cannot run in both. There are no plans for an Outlook 2003 addin or Entourage addin.
Does Client Software support multiple users?
Both ExchangeDefender Outlook 2007 and Desktop agents are multi-user and store configuration information in the users Windows profile.
Note: You can only have one configuration per Windows User account because Client Software uses Windows Registry to store configuration data. If you have a deployment in which multiple users are sharing the same Windows account this will not work (and is also a violation of Windows licensing agreement).
Can I automatically roll out ExchangeDefender Client Software?
You can automatically deploy ExchangeDefender Desktop agent. Be careful to launch the installer from the local block device (hard drive) attached to the computer because installations launched from network shares will fail.
Due to the security restrictions imposed by Microsoft Outlook 2007 it is not possible to deploy the software by automatic/unattended means.
